International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Lalaji Memorial Omega International School is an authorised school to run International Baccalaureate  Diploma Programme and is listed under IB World School by IBO.  The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme, has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities.

The Diploma Programme prepares students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they:

  • develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
  • acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from 6 subject groups
  • develop the skills and a positive attitude toward learning that will prepare them for higher education
  • study at least two languages and increase understanding of cultures, including their own
  • make connections across traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the programme's unique theory of knowledge course
  • undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disciplines in the extended essay
  • enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, activity and service.

The Curriculum


IB Diploma Programme students must choose one subject from each of five groups (1 to 5), ensuring breadth of knowledge and understanding in their best language, additional language(s), the social sciences, the experimental sciences and mathematics. Candidates to choose 1 subject each from groups 1-5and 1 more subject from groups 3,4 or 6. Of these students may take at least 3 or a maximum of 4 at Higher Level and  a minimum of 2 or a maximum of 3 at Standard Level.

Choice of subjects offered at LMOIS

  • Group 1 - Language A :  English language and Literature SL / HL
  • Group 2 - Language B : Second language offered at two levels
    1. Ab initio - German, French  and  Spanish 
    2. SL- German, French, Spanish and Hindi .
  • Group 3 - Business  and Management HL/SL, Economics HL/SL, Information Technology in a global society HL/SL (additional Subject), Psychology HL/SL, Environmental Systems and societies SL
  • Group 4 - Physics HL/SL, Chemistry HL/SL, Biology HL/SL (additional subject), Computer Science, Environmental Systems and societies SL
  • Group 5 – Mathematical Studies, Mathematics HL/SL
  • Group 6 - Visual Arts  SL



Students take written examinations at the end of the programme, which are marked by external IB examiners. Students also complete assessment tasks in the school, which are either initially marked by teachers and then moderated by external moderators or sent directly to external examiners.

The marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). Students can also be awarded up to three additional points for their combined results on theory of knowledge and the extended essay. The diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance across the whole programme and to satisfactory participation in the creativity, action, service requirement. The highest total that a Diploma Programme student can be awarded is 45 points.

IB Recognition communicates the value of an IB education. Recognition staff work to ensure that IB students are properly recognized by universities and governments for the unique credentials and qualifications of their IB education.

University recognition


The IB diploma is accepted in 75 countries at over 2000 universities, and the IB has a search directory on its website, although they advise students to check directly with each university for the recognition policy.[53] The IB also maintains a list of universities offering scholarships to IBDP graduates under conditions specified by each higher education institution, including 58 colleges and universities in the U.S. Please click on to the following link for further details:

Who can Apply?


Students who have completed / or are in the process of completing grade 10 in any stream such as IGCSE, CBSE, ICSE,  IB MYP or any State board equivalent of grade 10 are eligible to apply.

The process of selection is as below:

  • Upon the receipt of duly filled in online application forms, the parents are intimated via email of the entrance test dates. After verifying the relevant documents an entrance test is conducted in English, Mathematics and Science. The entrance test is conducted to assess the prior knowledge required for pursuing IBDP.
  • No entrance test is conducted for IGCSE students of LMOIS, instead their performance in the school based assessment is considered for short listing.
  • Based on the test results, and performance in school based examinations, the student and parents are called for an interaction with the Senior Principal/Principal ( IBDPC) for selection of subjects. Provisional admission is granted after a successful interview. Admission is confirmed upon the submission of final results of board exams.
