SWARANJALI – SURON KA SANGAM
October 2011

As the sun sets on October 16th 2011, Omega witnessed the drum of Swaranjali, Suron Ka Sangam. This was the third edition of the music competition held every year, a battle of voices for the ultimate title – "The Voice of Omega". The event was efficiently organized by the hostel family with the help of the technical staff at school.

The programme kicked off at 5pm and was honored by the presence of Correspondent sir, Nirmala Ma'am and other guests, and the judges – Mrs. Gayathri, Ms Niveditha and Dr. Shiamala. The hosts kept their audience captivated with their ready wit and humour. There were in all 12 participants – 8 from the senior category (9th – 12th) and 4 from the juniors (4th – 8th). The audience kept their breath as they sat enraptured by the melody and the beat of their singing. The level of the competition was sky-high as the participants gave the judges a tough time in deciding the finalists. While they racked their brains together, the audience was entertained with a few graceful dances.

The programme was a smashing success and in the end, the titles of "The Voice of Omega" were bestowed on Anamay of 12th and Sakshi of 8th.

'It was the 16th of October that I had enthusiastically participated in the singing competition Swaranjali – Suron Ka Sangam, Season 3. I was a bit nervous as this was the first time and I was the youngest of the competitors in the senior category. I was deeply motivated by Master's speech when he advised how students should try their best and not lose hope. That was one of the main reasons for my ‘gritty' performance on the stage. The first round offered a choice between bhajans, patriotic songs and Ghazals. I chose Ghazals and sang: Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti by Jagjit Singh. Seeing my melodious competitors, I did not expect to qualify. But I eventually did and I sang pretty well. The second round was a melodious song and I choose one of my favorite: Yeh Dooriyan from the movie Love Aaj Kal. This time I was a bit shocked that I couldn't make it to the grand Finale Swaranjali. But this event improved my singing skills and encouraged me to do even better in the next season.'
