Omega International School offers dormitory facilities to students, both boys and girls, from class V upwards. The facility is offered only for students whose parents are NOT residents of Chennai. The upper limit for admission to the dormitory is class VIII. In our experience, students older than this have difficulties in adjusting to the change, and this disturbs the entire population.
While the boy's dormitory is in the administration block, a new girls' dormitory building has come up one year ago. The two dorms are under the care of a common chief warden and his wife who have the additional qualification that they are both doctors. The team of wardens has been handpicked with care, following the motto given by the founder of the school: "Omega loves its children".
One can definitely feel a special atmosphere in the dorms after school hours. Children from different cultural backgrounds, coming from different parts of the globe, work under the guidance of the wardens to develop and maintain an environment of ‘Home' where love prevails. In the evenings, special classes are held by wardens and teachers to assist students with academic difficulties.
In the morning, the younger students practice Hatha Yoga while other senior students choose to meditate. This practice has wonderful effect on them. Students are more calm, focussed and display a great sense of responsibility.
One of the unique features of the dorms is a daily assembly in each hostel at 9 pm, during which information is passed, discussions are held and problems are resolved together, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. The day ends with all students joining together in a silent prayer for peace and brotherhood in the world.
