Appointment of Local Guardian

 



It is essential that ALL boarders, irrespective of whether they are from India or abroad, have a local guardian, who will be responsible for them, and will be their and the school's first point of contact in the case of any emergency. Once the local guardian has been chosen, the school must be notified, and the following details must be submitted:

  1.     Name of the Local Guardian:
  2.     Relationship with the student / student's family:
  3.     E-mail address:
  4.     Photograph (passport size):

The local guardian will play the following role:

  • They will act on behalf of the parents.
  • They will be the first point of contact for all local communication.
  • They would be expected to take custody of the student in case of medical need, such as outbreak of infectious diseases, etc.
  • They will attend all parents' meetings on behalf of the parents, and report back on the student's progress to the parents.
  • The local guardian is not expected to play the role of the parent, though the parents may authorize them to play a part of the role, under notice in writing to the school, and with the school's written concurrence.
  • A member of the staff of Omega International School may NOT be a local guardian of any student.
 
Medical status

 

  • All students are required to bring with them a certificate from their local doctor / General Practitioner, certifying that they are free of any infectious / communicable diseases, that they have received all the usual vaccines and boosters on time, and listing any pre-existing medical condition.
  • If the student is under any medication for any such medical condition, these must be  intimated to the Senior Warden upon arrival. Details of diagnostic, investigations and proper medical prescription have to be handed over to the doctor in the health room in order to continue the treatment.
  • Parents are requested not to send common over the counter remedies with their child (such as Paracetamol, Nocold…) since the health room provides all of them.
  • Students are required to hand over all medicines to the health staff on arrival, and they will be dispensed in accordance with the prescription by them.
 
What are you permitted to bring with you

 


 Students are permitted the following items when they enter the dormitory:

Students must carry with them the necessary funds for them to

  • Personal clothing, including nightdress, underclothes, socks, school shoes, sport shoes, and any other personal items such as minimally required. De-odorants are permitted, but perfume is to be avoided.
  • Books and school uniforms.
  • Prescription drugs, in case they have a pre-existent medical condition that has been declared to the school at the time of admission.
  • Money given to them by their parents for deposit into their personal account in Chennai.
  • Students are permitted to hold a mobile phone. However, all mobile phones must be deposited with the Senior Warden upon arrival at the dormitory. Students will be permitted to use their phones, if needed, at the Senior Warden's discretion, and during stated periods during the weekend, and during holidays.
  • Spending money:
    Students must carry with them the necessary funds for them to
    1. Make purchases of cosmetics, snacks and other food items from the school canteen,
    2. Buy books and stationery items from the bookstore,
    3. Pay for participation in excursions, field trips etc.
    Parents must send money to cover these purchases along with the student in one of the forms below:
    1. DD in the student's name, so that a bank account may be opened at the Manapakkam branch of Allahabad Bank.
    2. Transfer the funds once the account has been opened electronically, using details provided by the school.
    3. Provide the student with an add-on credit card, with a pre-specified limit not exceeding Rs. 50,000, so that the card may be used as needed, and as authorized by the student / parent.
    A minimum of Rs. 10,000 and a maximum of Rs. 25,000 must be present in the account at all times. The school will not permit credit purchases under any circumstances.
    The school will NOT use these funds to collect outstanding fees, except under extraordinary circumstances.

The following are Not permitted in the dormitory

 

  • Audio / video equipment such as pocket radios, CD players, pocket TV, iPods and any forms of electronic games.
  • Alcohol, drugs, any form of tobacco, and pan masala.
  • Any offensive literature that is not age-appropriate.
  • Gold ornaments, including neck chains, bangles, bracelets, finger rings etc.
  • Edible items of any sort, including pickles, sweets, and other confectionary items such as chocolates, chewing gum etc.
  • Matches, incense sticks and explosive devices of any kind are strictly prohibited.
  • Parents may please note that all prohibited items will be confiscated upon discovery and kept in the custody of the Senior Warden.

Discovery of prohibited items in the student's person or in the student's effects will count as a 2 de-merit offence (See "De-merit system" below) the first time and as 3 de-merits every subsequent time.

 
Uniforms

 


Students must possess 3 sets of school uniforms and 2 sets of sports uniforms at the beginning of each scholastic year. Uniforms will be made by the school upon prior payment only. The rates will be communicated to the students and parents well in advance.  Students must pay for the uniforms, and measurement done, before they leave for their summer vacation, and they will then receive the uniforms upon arrival after the vacation.
Students will be charged differentially depending on when they order uniforms, before or after the summer vacations.
Payment for the uniforms may be deducted from the student's personal bank account, or paid for separately.
