Shri.P.Rajagopalachari
Shri Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari, born on July 24, 1927, near Chennai, then called Madras, in South India, is the founder of the Lalaji Memorial Omega International School.
Shri P. Rajagopalachari, affectionately called Chariji, did most of his schooling in Jabalpur in the Christ Church Boys High School. He was schooled in the Christian tradition, and this has had a lasting impression on him, in that he has a deep understanding of Christian Theology and teachings, and can quote from the Testaments and psalms almost at will.
While still in his teens, he started to study the Bhagavad Gita, and has a deep and often revolutionary understanding of this treatise. He developed an interest in philosophy, mysticism and psychology, which lasts to this day. He has an eclectic taste, and has read the works of all the major philosophers. His favourites are the works of Ouspensky, Gurdjieff, William James. He also reads science fiction avidly, and loves the works of Tolkien.
He has always believed that education begins at school but should last a lifetime. To this date, he has continually upgraded his knowledge and skills. He can speak half a dozen languages well and continues to learn new languages even today. In the early 80's, he acquired an IBM PC, and began to teach himself how to operate it. Today, he uses an Apple IMac with great élan.
Chariji has always had a very deep connection with the Philosophy of Education, and believes that children must be taught in the right way, that is, teachers must work to bring forth their understanding and appreciation of a subject, already lying latent within them, rather than them having it force fed. At the same time, he is very concerned at the utter lack of values that pervades public life today, and also concerned, that this example will teach children the wrong things. He is concerned that society is becoming ever more corrupt and bereft of values, and that there are few attempts to stem the rot.
The Omega International School is an experiment, not only in education, but also in how to teach children values to live by. The school has been established, not so much to teach children the three R's as to mould them in the right manner for their entry into the real world, and to equip them with the moral and ethical values that will guide them through their lives.
