Gaia Club Vision
The Omega Gaia Club started in 2008 as a group of 17 young and aspiring students with a common vision to create a greener and healthier environment and make a difference starting on the school campus.
In two years, hundred Omega students who are concerned about these green issues have joined the club that is now led by 20 executive members including a President, Vice President and a Secretary. It was known as the Eco-club and was renamed after the Greek earth deity ‘Gaia'.
The members of the club are dedicated to helping our mother earth and hope that the seeds of hard work and prayers will yield fruitful results.
Gaia Projects
After reading the book Reality at Dawn from Ram Chandraji of Shajahanpur, a group of students wondered and worried about how the world would look like in the future. They decided to start working for the future of the planet and approached a teacher for guidance and support. The Eco-club was created. Several projects have been started since then:
2008: Paper mache was our first project to re-use the news papers read in school.
2008: We then tried our hands at gardening and making a vermi-compost. The Gaia Club students took charge of the garden in the school and maintained it.
2008: LMOIS is proud to have a bio-gas. The students of the Gaia club initiated this project.
2009: Since 2009, Gaia has worked on spreading awareness amongst students. The themes of the campaigns have been ‘anti fire-crackers', ‘waste management' and ‘global warning'.
2010: Gaia club activities during academic year 2010 - 2011:

In the future:
Gaia has started working on recycling the laundry water.
Gaia students plan to organise different campaign about care for environment with day scholars going to localities around the school, spreading awareness and giving sapling to plant.
LMOIS has an organic vegetable garden that Gaia plans to maintain.
Funding of Projects
| "At Omega we follow the principle of the 5 'R's (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle) to encourage students to do their part as individuals." |
With the Gaia club, we have conducted games during school events to raise funds for our projects. The first one was during the Children's Day Celebration in 2008. The funds were given to the Founder of the school. In 2010 we conducted a fair on a much larger scale. It was a grand event that included games, food, fun and entertainment. It was very successful and the money collected is being invested in long term projects on the campus.
| ZWM Campaign Now each student thinks twice before (and eventually decides against) throwing garbage wheresoever they please, since their conscience has been awakened. Thank you Omega Gaia Club! |
