Peeling Banana Activity
The activity was underway by explaining the benefits of the fruit by the facilitator and continuing by singing a beautiful peppy rhyme while doing the activity. The Facilitator showed “how to peel the banana” in slices, parts, halves and as a whole by holding the stalk part by peeling the skin part by part slowly. By the end of the activity, children were also insisted to reuse the removed skin as a natural manure to their plants at home.
All the younger ones participated eagerly and enthusiastically in the activity. Children enjoyed the activity and also learned to peel the banana by themselves without the help of adults. The purpose of this activity was to inculcate the child to develop a love for the fruit and consume it every day in order to help them stay healthy.
Pairing Cylinder Game
Though the game link was shared with the parents to guide children while they work offline, children were also initiated during the virtual session on how to pair the cylinders with the same diameters and put them back in their own sockets. The material consists of a wooden box with 12 sockets and 12 cylindrical rods with different diameters. Apart from developing the child’s fine motor movements, concentration and eye – hand coordination, the material also provides experiences of seriation and gives the child basic language important in math.
As these cylinders doesn’t have a knob, they require a more advanced pincer grip control while working and it lays the foundation for a good pencil grip in children. This game has undoubtedly helped our little ones to discriminate using a visual sense of diameter of a solid 3d shape. Children relished playing the game with utmost interest and curiosity.
Bunny Activity – CD Fish
Another engaging activity that our Montessori children anticipate every Wednesday is the Bunny Activity. Apart from singing prayer and bunny songs, this time our bambinos were thrilled to make a cd fish craft. Crafting activities are often included during our bunny sessions as it helps children develop their fine motor skills, boost counting and pattern recognition, encourage critical thinking, build their resilience and support reluctant readers.
The template was shared with the children and they were guided by the facilitator to complete the fish with an old used cd. It was another stimulating hands – on activity for them to reuse and recycle the old cds into a creative craft. Once the activity was completed, few of our little ones volunteered to name the different parts of the fish. They thoroughly enjoyed doing the activity independently and were observed to be proud and happy while naming its parts.
Origami excites other modalities of learning. It has been shown to improve spatial visualization skills using hands-on learning. Such skills allow children to comprehend, characterize, and construct their own vernacular for the world around them. And that’s how we believe, this activity has also benefited our little ones.
Guidelines were shared to create these stylish sunglasses with their tiny fingers, and were supported by the facilitators with simple instructions. Following the instructions, the paper folding’s and creases were made by them independently with ease. Each of them were delighted when they were asked to wear their own creation on their eyes.
Drawing a Quail
Children are effective communicators and through creative art, they learn to make meaning and freely express their thoughts, ideas and feelings. This activity on drawing a quail has abetted our young artists in developing their fine motor skills and helped them control their finger grip and movement too. Few important facts about the bird was shared with the children before they could start the activity. They were extremely focused and busy in drawing the bird. It was rather another exciting activity to stimulate their eye hand coordination and their ability to control the pencil. And finally when they were asked to share their work with the facilitator and peers, they were observed to be elated, proud and satisfied with their own masterpiece.
The core purpose of education is to help the child adapt to the time and culture into which they are born. If festivals are a big part of our culture – then, absolutely, the child must be introduced to them! And that was all that happened during the virtual Christmas celebration in our Montessori environments. Age appropriate songs, rhymes and stories shared during the virtual sessions made children enjoy the unique festival.
Whether it’s making decorations or planning a festive performance, it’s important to provide children with the chance to explore their creativity. And that’s why….. Few hands on activities of making a Reindeer and Christmas tree were done by our tiny crafters. Cake and juice prepared for their snack time gave them a sensorial joy. Specific vocabulary related to the festival was another engaging part in language which was shared throughout the month. And above all, there was a cultural learning about the festival, the joy emanated while celebrating it united us all, whatever our region, caste or religion. We are definite that all our endeavours would help our children to build a lifelong love for learning.
E P L Activities
The Purpose and main aim of these culturally appropriate activities are to help our little ones develop co-ordination of movement, gain independence, adapt to their society and develop their ability to concentrate. Though these practical tasks keep children happily occupied, they also enhance their personal security and self-esteem.
When the child is able to walk and his hands become free for work, he desires to participate in these daily routines to become like us. Children want to collaborate or join in. And that is how our little champs have also tried their best at home to help themselves as well as their other family members by doing some interesting household chores with supreme concentration and love.
“I can, I am capable, I am worthy of something, my collaboration is needed by the people with whom I live, my work is important to others and I can transform the world around me with my work,” is the personality that’s developed in our children by these activities which is conceded by them throughout their future.
The core purpose of introducing this preliminary activity to our young ones was to help the child fine tune his /her finger muscles and to indirectly prepare their little hands for future writing while learning how to use the scissors. The child snipped the strip into the little container using a pair of scissors and later, they were encouraged to use these cut out strips for pasting activities too. This unique and fun way of cutting helped their little hands develop their fine motor skills with great concentration and interest. Our little ones were so excited to cut the long strips into smaller pieces and they enjoyed doing this activity independently.
It was one of the activity added to the sensory learning of our little ones which reinforced their fine motor skills too in a fascinating way. Our little munchkins had a great time preparing the lemonade by squeezing the lemon, sprinkling the sugar and the salt and stirring the mixture with their tiny fingers. This activity gave our young learners a hands on experience of making a glass of lemonade and they relished every bit of it, sharing some with their other family members also. It was great to watch their cute expressions while sipping it and each one of them were allowed to share how it tasted. It was a splendid virtual activity enjoyed by both the teachers as well as the children with great zest.
Making a Rose
This activity was introduced to help children explore and play with modelling clay, while discovering how to make basic forms, developing their hand-brain coordination, agility and fine motor skills. A video on how to make a rose with clay was shared with the children and they tried to pinch it, roll it and squeeze it into shapes as shown in the video. Our little ones were able to follow the steps and they tried best to make the rose. It was an interesting activity enjoyed by children which stimulated their imagination and creativity.
Making a Butterfly
A butterfly model was demonstrated using a video and also by the teachers through the virtual session. Our children were seen to be filled with excitement and great enthusiasm to make the butterfly. They started working with the clay by rolling, pressing, squeezing and reshaping it into different shapes. Some children used their imagination and creativity to decorate the butterfly by their own. It was amazing to see their problem-solving skills when they decided how far they can shape the clay before it breaks, de-shapes, and falls. The model was even used to reinforce the different sounds in the word ‘butterfly’. It was rather another activity to improve their eye-hand coordination, motor skills, dexterity, creativity and attention span.
The Practivity Kit distributed to each of our children not only helps our children to learn offline in a playful way but also fosters the interactive engagement between the parent and the child.
Once our youngest ones were able to identify the primary and the secondary colours, they were introduced with a game using the colour and shape cards in the Practivity Kit to help them find the difference and similarity between colours. One specific colour card will be isolated and the child will be asked to identify the similar one and match it with the isolated one. The same will be followed to match all the colour cards in the group. It was an interesting activity which our tiny tots enjoyed and continued as long as they were interested.
One of the favourite offline activity for our older children is Creative Geometry. The link for each game is shared with the parent, they go through the video and guide their children offline. The creative geometry set in it helps children learn about shapes and sizes through hands on activities. Game 7 and 10 was played with our children even during virtual sessions using the creative geometry set to introduce the names of the different shapes. It starts first with the introduction, then recognition and finally recall. Children were able to identify the shapes, match them, memorize their names and explore more in their own unique way with these materials. The material was used effectively by our children with great curiosity and enthusiasm.
Colour is a power which directly influences the soul and brings positivity amongst all. To bring the positivity colour week was celebrated in Omega Montessori by incorporating with Navaratri colours 2021. Colour can sway thinking, change actions and cause reactions. As a powerful form of communication, colour is irreplaceable. We dress ourselves in colours before we present ourselves to the world.
The focus of the activities was to develop independence in children.
All the efforts of a child to grow, are efforts to acquire independence. By helping the child to do things by himself/herself, we are making the child become independent. The activities planned and executed during the “Nutrition week” helped the children to prepare healthy food with very little help from the adults.
Cutting vegetables and fruits
Children can cut vegetables and fruits and can serve these as a healthy snack to their family members. It makes them feel proud to be active participants in the family environment. In addition, it helps them develop concentration, sense of sequencing, task completion and most of all, independence.
Children prepared a variety of salads using the vegetables and fruits they had cut.
Making bread and butter toast
Spreading butter on a slice of bread requires movement of the wrist, which strengthens the hands and improves coordination. This activity prepares the child’s hands for writing.
Making buttermilk is a fun science experiment. Butter is a solid and when children see that it can separate from a liquid, they become enthusiastic, all the while preparing a simple healthy drink.
Healthy meal prepared by the child
The activities of the “Nutrition week” programme were successful. This can be evidenced on the children’s meal plates.
Care for the environment
Care for the environment is the most important value that should be followed by adults and children, every day. Caring for one’s environment (restoring one’s environment to pristine conditions after carrying out various activities) grooms self-management in the child. It is an expression of value and respect for each and every object in the environment. Children do folding clothes from previous day’s laundry, filling and emptying grains in pots, cleaning slates, arranging bags in the shelf, washing chowkies, washing clothes, arranging books in the reading corner, watering the indoor plants, arranging Montessori materials and clothes in the shelves are some of the very basic day-to-day activities that show care for the environment in Montessori method.
At Omega, Bunny Programme (Part of Scouts & Guides movement) is held for children aged 3-6 years.

The Bunny wing of Omega KG celebrated the “All Faith Day” programme on the 11th of March at 9:30 am in Vega Mandap.
The leaders of Scouts & Guides, Bunny aunties and children of UKG & M2 enjoyed singing some of their favourite bunny songs. Children recited verses from different holy books and observed silence during the “All Faith” prayer.
Counting the beads using hindi numbers
Each child was given a number card, some beads and a string. The children counted the beads & strung them to match the number card with them.
Matching letters with pictures
Flash cards for swar (vowels) were given to each child. Picture cards were kept in the centre of the table. Each child picked the picture card that matched with the letter in his / her hand.
Matching Upper & Lowercase Letters
We had fun making activities to help LKG children practice recognising upper and lower case letters. The adorable kids enjoyed matching the capital and small letters using paper cups.
Counting with beads is fun, hands-on way to support early math skills. The little ones of LKG were able to identify numbers 1 to 10 and count beads accordingly. Kids were engrossed while they grasped the beads & placed them carefully in the bowls. This activity develops their mathematical and fine motor skills.
This is an activity where the sensorial component of Montessori meets the language component. As a first step, the activity engages the child’s visual tactile and olfactory senses through seeing, feeling and smelling the flowers. Once the sensorial experience is over, the children go on to pair the real flowers with picture card flowers by themselves, thus giving a real life experience that aims in enriching vocabulary, sensorial developmental, logical thinking and reasoning skills.
Matching sight words
The activity conducted for LKG kids makes learning sight words more fun and engaging. Kids were able to read the sight words written on the board and match them using sight word cards with enthusiasm.
Scoop it up – Scoping the balls activity
This was their favourite activity and it served tons of fun for LKG kids. Children were able to scoop the ball with a ladle, identify the letter, say the sound and a word for it. As they scooped the ball, they splashed the water, giggled and spread happiness in the classroom. It helped them to develop their fine motor and language skills.
Arts & craft activity using Icecream sticks
It was a fantastic activity for the little ones to improve their fine motor skills. They enjoyed touching the ice-cream sticks, played a while and glued those sticks carefully on the outline picture of the house. As they glued, they merrily sang rhymes and understood the importance of helping others in their family.
Five sense organs matching activity
The young buddies of LKG were able to think critically about how they use their senses with this simple matching activity. They looked bright and cheerful as they matched the objects to the corresponding sense organs. This activity will encourage children to explore the world around them.
Reading corner is a cosy, comfortable and lovely space created within the Montessori environment with a nice variety of attractive books that are suitable for children of all ages (2.5yrs to 4.5yrs). It gives the child an opportunity to explore and read books that are age appropriate. The child relates and connects to these books instantly as he or she visualises the life experiences around his or her home, society and culture.
Art and Craft
Art and craft are fun for kids who want to make something unique and enjoy creativity. Kids glued pieces of paper to make a beautiful bird and then drew eyes, beak and legs! This activity was another milestone for developing their fine motor skills.
Montessori – Brown stairs
This is a sensorial activity, where the children use their visual and tactile senses to discriminate dimensions. This prepares them for learning math in higher classes. The activity enhances the child’s hand to mind coordination (movements) , reasoning ability and logical thinking .
Language aspects like thick – thin and heavy – light were introduced (through this activity) to children from the age of 2.5 years. This gives room for cross-curricular linkage.
LKG students experienced a math activity which was fun and enjoyable. They drew triangles for the numbers written on the slate (numbers 6 to 10). After drawing, they checked their work by counting the triangles. Counting and drawing objects is an early mathematical skill that needs to be developed at this class level.
Our tiny tots rang in the harvest festival in absolute fervour! Traditional outfits, animated singing of seasonal rhymes and songs, bullock cart ride and much more was the flavour. Kids danced merrily around the traditional clay pot to the tunes of tamil folk music and thoroughly enjoyed the cultural learning experience at school.
Art and Crafts
Precious activity time for our kindergarteners themed on the harvest festival of Pongal! The young ones were completely involved with their actions to create cutouts of pots and sugarcanes and further decorated with colourful sequins and cotton while engaging in some friendly banter with their peers! Yet another activity for the kids to work on their fine motor skills and communication.
A practical life activity for the young ones, the kids focus on strengthening their hand to mind coordination. Deciding the right amount of resources required for the entire activity makes the child more sensible, independent and calculative. The logical mind reasons and carries out the steps involved from the beginning to the end of the activity. It also allows the child to be empathetic and considerate for others who take up the activity after him/her during the winding up process.
Cards and Counters
A unique Montessori way of learning math presented to a child of 3.5 years who can recognize/identify numbers. This activity enables the child to understand the concept of counting. The movement around this activity gives insight in forming a set or a group.
Scouring on brass is an age old practice of restoring the brass vessels to pristine condition after use. Our little tots take great pleasure in scouring on brass bowls and other decors, and express their care and love for their belongings. However, to scour a brass article the child needs to put all his senses and involves rigorous movement. The calculated use of resource and hand movements not only improves their hand-mind coordination but also makes them independent, giving a sense that they’re capable of making things look better than before.
Washing hands is an activity not only for sanitizing hands, but the movements helps the child to gain hand to mind coordination and also gives the confidence to be independent in taking care of oneself. It also gives opportunity to explore the science behind self hygiene.
Classified Pictures & Reading
Classified pictures (CP) are the most loved three-period lesson for a child and is given right from the age of 2.5 yrs. In the first stage of CP, child learns to identify the scenarios and objects around his home, social circle, society. In the next stage the child with the help of phonics reads and matches the names of the things, people and objects in these cards with the classified reading cards available in 3 different languages. In the third stage the child writes the names of these things, objects or people using movable alphabets on his / her own.
Young kids are the real experts in throwing foam javelins on TT pictures! This picture target activity is a super fun indoor learning activity and is a great way for identifying pictures related to letter “Tt” and also great for fine motor development and language development.
This art activity is a lovely way to introduce LKG children to print dots using cotton buds. The little ones chose different colours, dip the cotton buds in paint with ease and cheerfully print beautiful dots. a stunning print of a dandelion flower followed!
Animals on track
Driving on the 8 shaped track would test the drivers ability to steer the vehicle. In the same way, kids skilfully made the animal toys to walk on the number 8 for the “animal on track” activity. They proved their mettle and learnt the correct formation of number 8 too.
The metal inset is the first and vital step towards writing in Montessori methodology. The metal insets are given to a child when the child shows signs of preparedness for the most awaited developmental stage – writing. The careful and repeated strokes from top to bottom or left to right, across any shape of the inset prepares them for writing by developing the required hand to eye coordination and grip to hold the pencil. This ultimately culminates to building up focus and concentration for the child.
Care of plants
An ideal activity to be considerate, caring and kind towards others. The sequence of steps in the activity is food to the reasoning mind and the language around builds the vocabulary of the child, while giving an insight into gardening and agriculture. Children are encouraged to decide on the type of care that is needed for the plants, based on their own sensorial (visual & touch) evaluation of the plant.
A Montessori way of learning mathematics, the child visually discriminates the rods and arranges them from short to long, putting his sensorial mind to work. The math mind counts on the alternating colours of blue and red and places the right number card against each rod. While this builds a strong foundation for higher math, the ability to think and decide is given to the child through such activities.
Art and craft
Children of LKG made an adorable photo frame with sequins and straws! This activity helps to develop their fine motor skills and creative skills.
Rainbow tracing of letter ‘Uu’
Children enjoyed the activity of tracing the alphabet in special rainbow coloured crayons!
Matching Upper and lowercase
Preschoolers always have fun with the alphabet matching activity. This indoor activity was exciting for the little angels of LKG because it was done with their favourite building blocks. They eagerly matched the upper and lower case of ‘Uu’ using the building blocks and felt proud of their accomplishments. This activity helps in letter recognition and fine motor development.
Show and Tell activity
The cheerful kids of lower kindergarten participated enthusiastically in Show and tell activity about animals. They shared amazing facts about their favorite animals. They brought beautiful animal pictures and soft toys to share with the class. Sometimes it was nerve-wracking, still they performed confidently. This activity enhances their social skills and develops their oral presentation skills.
UKG kids celebrated the magic of colours by dressing up in a different colour every day. Fun activities and colour coded takeaways were the highlight for the kids!
Thumb printing is an interesting way to paint things as it stimulates the children’s senses and helps in intellectual development. Curious kids of LKG discussed about the characteristics and objects of indigo colour and made beautiful flowers with the thumb impressions. They participated enthusiastically in the activity and looked at the indigo flowers with great admiration.

Our little budding artists of LKG enjoyed painting an octopus using this technique and admired their work!
Making wrist bands
The enthusiastic LKG kids loved making wrist band with purple flower petals. This activity develops their patience and creativity.
Children of LKG happily decorated Christmas cards with stars and bells, clapped their hands and cheered with joy when they saw their favourite Santa Claus. They sang joyfully and danced together for the Christmas songs. It was indeed a fabulous Christmas celebration!
The activity was for our students aged between 2 and 3 years. Dressing Frames activity gives the child independence to carry out his / her daily tasks. The movements help in achieving high level of hand, mind and body coordination which helps in developing focus, attentiveness, and concentration.
A complete sensorial experience for our tiny tots as they work on constructing the tower.The repeated yet, careful movement develops a great hand, mind and body coordination and indirectly prepares the child for the next level of mathematics and geometry with increased focus.
Learning math the Montessori way, the spindle box activity involves using age appropriate materials that will provide an insight into the subject of mathematics and build a strong foundation. Independence, language and movements are the prime focus of this activity.
Cylinderical blocks not only prepares the math mind but also refines the child’s senses to the finest point and indirectly prepares him or her to the next level of mathematical studies.
UKG Children’s Day Activity
UKG children celebrated the day with great pomp and show.The doors and classrooms were decorated to welcome the tiny tots to enjoy their day. The children had some indoor games and danced whole heartedly! A memorable day indeed!
Washing chowki activity
Our kids working towards creating a better environment! The washing chowki activity aims at the child to be able to work independently and be responsible. The child feels satisfied with the coordinated movements and builds his / her confidence.
The sandpaper letter tracing of numericals helps the child understand the formation of numbers and is the first step to math. Usage of a sensitised forefinger and middle finger not only gives a feeling of writing but aids in strengthening the grip to hold a pencil.
Pouring grains without spilling from a breakable jug to another needs great focus, analysed and coordinated movements. The child has to pour self calculated amount of grains from a large jug into three same or different sized containers. A great exercise for the mind too!
The little ones of LKG had an interesting math activity called link game. They were excited to play with colourful links and meticulously joined them to make a model of number 7. This activity develops their mathematical and fine motor skills.
Show & Tell Activity
Show & Tell Activity is not only fun and engaging for kindergarteners, it also helps in language development. Children of LKG spoke about their favourite fruits & vegetables confidently, by showing the objects. The teacher prompted the shy ones so that they felt comfortable to speak in front of their friends.
Art & Craft Activity
The little buddies of LKG had a wonderful art and craft activity. They coloured the picture of sun using crayons and pasted wool around it. Though their hands were messy & sticky, their faces shone brightly like sun. They thoroughly enjoyed the activity and learnt to be patient in their day to day life.
Sliding down S pictures
Slides are fun to climb up & slide down, but LKG children had a different activity of sliding down “S” pictures. This activity helps in language development.
Students of UKG & M2 identified names of body parts and put them together to create a cute little crow. Refining their fine motor skills, students enjoyed the adventure of finding the right parts and gluing them together.
Students of M1 were introduced to the art of Origami and went on to make their very own owl! The activity is ideal to develop eye-hand coordination, mental concentration and improves their fine motor skills. It also allows children to create basic shapes of squares, rectangles and triangles with paper and has a calming effect on their mind.
The students were able to name the alphabets and arrange the letter cards in the right sequence. This activity builds their confidence in recognizing the letters and also helps them in writing.
To enhance their tiny muscular movement, the little ones scribbled on newspapers and brought their imagination to paper in a multitude of colours.
Stickers are an amazing sensory experience for children due to the nature and textures they get to experience. The activity involved the kids to peel off the sticker and place it appropriately, to build on their eye-hand coordination skills.

Children of Pre KG were encouraged to make colourful impressions and patters using paints and the ladies finger vegetable.
In another Art and Craft activity, the kids decorated a quilt with the alphabet Q.

As the students of PreKG reach the end of the academic year, activities to get them thorough with basics like alphabet recognition and shape has been the theme. To make it a fun exercise, kids were asked to use colourful straws to trace the outline of alphabets.
Animal Kingdom project
On a fine morning, students were welcomed to the campus to begin their safari to explore the majestic animal kingdom! Kids were guided to follow the footprints of animals from different habitats. Their journey was punctuated with fun-filled activities like Dark Adventure Zone, Zootopia and other unique puzzle games. A superlative day that culminated with kids receiving handmade crowns as their cherished take away!
Students made an enthusiastic return to school following their winter break. Children were welcomed with new charts and classroom props!
“Hi-Fi” sight words
The children are given an opportunity to identify words from the clue chits and match it to the chart of Sight words. A fun way to improve their vocabulary.
A playful way to get thorough with alphabets by means of letter recognition and matching lowercase to uppercase alphabets. The activity is one of the most effective ways to help children with pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
Sports Day Practice
KG block is gearing up with the preparations for Sports Day, to be held on 10th Jan. Students of UKG and M2 are enjoying preparing for their big day!
Children were explained about coconut husk and even had a fun group activity with it! Children used the coconut husk to make a nest while sticking the on paper and used crayons to complete their creation.
As part of the Bunny activity, children were explained about our tri coloured national flag and the significance of Republic Day. The kids drew a flag on a sheet of paper and enjoyed their colouring activity.
While exploring concepts of transportation, specifically air transport, children were introduced to spaceships and went on to proceed with an activity of drawing a spaceship step-by-step.
Field trip! Our UKG & M2 kids were taken on their first ever field trip from school to the Guindy Park and reported to school in full gear – hats, waterbottles and a picnic bag! The day was an adventurous one and all of them were beaming with stories about everything that they had seen at the Park.
Kids of Pre KG celebrated 100 days of schooling in a vibrant way! The KG Mandap was occupied by midgets and kids were ecstatic as they witnessed their favourite midget dancing away! The photoboth was yet another star attraction and it was selfie-galore! A fun day for both parents and children, who were also given a special take away of cookies.
It was the turn for our LKG students to go on a fun adventure! Our young ones had a grand time travelling in the school bus and taking in the sights and sounds of the city!
A memorable day exploring with their friends!
Yet another fun activity was planned with play dough. A simple activity that promotes learning and development through hands-on playing exercise.
Rainbow tracing is the activity where children trace an alphabet using seven different colours. A vibrant project that helps children develop their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.
As part of the activities of the Bunny program, students were given a cut out of their beloved Santa. Children enjoyed colouring the cap and sticking cotton for Santa’s beard!
The last working day before the winter break was all about celebration and spreading Christmas cheer! The KG Mandap was vibrant with dance performances by UKG and M2 kids along with joyful renditions of festive carols! The children were ecstatic with Santa’s arrival and were overjoyed to receive their takeaways!
The week saw a flurry of fun activities for our young ones in UKG and M2 in anticipation to Childrens Day celebration the next week. There was Paper Cup Art, Show and Tell activity and a Colouring activity.
Paper cup activity showcased the children’s creativity and imagination; for paper cups were transformed to animals, fun objects and beyond! Show and Tell activity laid the focus on confident orators and was indeed lovely to watch the little ones speak exceedingly well. The colouring activity brought to life beautiful and colourful butterflies!
Childrens Day celebration with our young ones took centre stage all week long! With a host of merry activities, our teachers and support staff planned their special day meticulously and a one full of surprises. On 14th, children walked into the campus bright and chirpy in their colourful clothing and were welcomed with the music of their favourite cartoon characters. Parents and kids made a bee line to click a picture with cut-outs of special Disney characters and the Kindergartners were then all set to experience more surprises inside their classrooms. Colourful confetti and a special take-away for the kids was all part of the day’s jubilant celebration.
Teachers and support staff also distributed the kids’ favourite chocolates and put up a fun skit with props and more at the specially decorated Mandapam. A memorable day not only for the children but for everyone involved; happy Childrens Day indeed!
Pattern is the concept of repeated design or recurring sequence in a structured manner, with numbers, shapes, colours or with actions.
Children of UKG were given an opportunity to create patterns using colourful dried ingredients. This helped them to enhance their thinking ability and observational skills while enjoying the activity of completing patterns.
M1 children explored the world of shapes by walking over them! This activity helped them in recognizing the various shapes not only at school but also while outdoors. The artistic representations of the shapes sure made the activity an enjoyable experience!
Clay is versatile and fun for kids to play and experiment with. To explore mathematical skills, children made several clay balls and arranged them on slates next to its corresponding number.
Children rolled clay to make a long rope and further cut them to make small pieces. Next, they attached the pieces together carefully to create the alphabet ‘M’.
Slides & Ladder Activity
Children plunged into action, rolled the dice, jumped on the squares and climbed the ladder happily and also slid down with laughter. Our Kindergartners were absolutely thrilled when they reached the finishing point! Through this activity children learn all about strategy skills, mathematical skills, team work, colour recognition and also helps them to develop social skills.
Colour week in the KG block was scheduled between October 22nd to 26th . The entire block looked vibrant with children, parents, teachers as well as caretakers moving about in colourful clothing. The KG corridor looked peppy with thematic props and more. Colourful ribbons welcomed children each morning and were pleased to return home with their handmade creations; Green crown, Red photo frame, Orange wand, blue fan, yellow giraffe, etc. Children also had a good dose of “Bubble Bash”, popping bubbles in the sun while reflecting rainbow colours!
Painting on Letter G
The tiny tots were exposed to a fun alternative method of writing. They painted the letter Gg on the chart paper using flower buds.
To experience nature, children were taken on a walk around the campus. This helped the kids relate to concepts that they learn within the classroom – big/small, tall/short, colours and more.
Jobs people Do
Our UKG kids worked on a special project titled “Jobs People Do”. The kids envisioned their dream job and spoke a few lines while being dressed in an appropriate costume depicting the profession. The block was abuzz with “When I grow up, I want to be a …..”!
Festivals play a vital role in community celebrations. Ganesh Chathurthy is one such festival welcomed by all especially our Kindergarteners.
This year the children celebrated the festival by making tiny versions of Lord Ganesh using paper cups and icecream sticks and proudly carried them home!
This fun filled activity started with the emphasis on a number of aspects. First was about cleanliness – by washing the vegetables, followed by safety measures in handling sharp objects and ending with the awareness of eating a healthy snack. It was a treat for the eyes and feast for the stomach! Children ate the scrumptious sandwiches happily and left with an understanding that healthy snacks can be delicious too!
Painting Letter E
The tiny tots were exposed to a fun alternative method of writing. They painted the letter ‘Ee’ on the chart paper using different colours and their fingers. This pre-writing activity, apart from helping them to develop their fine motor skills, reinforces letter recognition and letter sound.
The child and the teacher imprinted the outline of their palms in their Art and Craft Notebook to be aware of the concept of Big and Small.
The children were taken around to experience the greenery within our school campus. They seemed to have enjoyed exploring the beauty of nature – trees and leaves ( big/small, tall/short), bird’s nest, butterflies and worms. They also met the gardeners and were explained their role as caretakers.
Letter Ff activity
A fun filled activity for children was conducted by encouraging them to arrange their favourite ice cream sticks for the letter Ff. This activity helped the kids to focus on letter recognition, sound & the formation of the alphabet Ff.
Children explored the green campus at Omega on a pleasant morning during the week. They admired the magnificent gardens, observed a variety of plants and trees and were fascinated with the beauty of colourful flowers and butterflies. The children were also captivated with the different kinds of fish and enjoyed watching the pigeons perched on trees. It was a feast for their eyes and left them refreshed in the body, mind and soul!
The first open day for the academic year 2018-19 was held on 1st of September. Parents participated enthusiastically to know about their child’s performance in school.
After meeting the Teachers the parents had an opportunity to take part in an Orientation program from Edusports. Parents and children enjoyed participating in the various games and circuits. The Scholastic book stall and Omega Paper Plant stall were also visited by one and all.
Our M1 students were introduced to a very fun activity this week – Arranging Beads on the Alphabet. The alphabet of choice was ‘B’ and students arranged colourful beads on the letter. A group activity that was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all!
Students of LKG were introduced to an easy alphabet learning activity involving finger printing. It’s a great way to get our children more familiar with writing letters of the alphabets and develop fine motor skills.
The Apple Tree Activity is all about number recognition, counting and one-to-one correspondence; where the child will pluck the apples as per the number printed on the card. Children also explored dot art activity and printing with cotton swabs instead of using a regular paintbrush.
Rainbow Trace Activity is another enjoyable classroom activity for learning about the alphabets. Children trace the alphabets with different colour crayons.
This week was all about writing activities for our young ones to develop their fine motor skills. Teachers encouraged the students to scribble with crayons and chalk pieces on paper and black board. The kids seem to enjoy being given a free hand to scribble away!
Another activity that helps to develop fine motor skills and improve their hand-eye coordination is playing and constructing with building blocks, and that’s exactly what our students did!
Race to Trace
An activity where the children come in an orderly fashion to trace the alphabets on the wall, as per instructions being given by their teacher. It was lovely to see kids wait for their turn and cheer each other to trace well. A great exercise to help them learn the formation of letters!
Walking on Letter C
Learning is fun when it is done in a playful method! Students of M1 had a wonderful activity of walking on the alphabet ‘Cc’. Children participated enthusiastically and were able to identify the name of letter and say the sound with confidence.
This activity helps children to know about the bunny program through a colouring activity. Children coloured the pink long ears, bushy tail and bunnies’ favourite food, the crunchy carrot.
Students used little cotton balls to dip in water colours and made impressions on a picture of a tortoise. This activity helped children to learn to colour within the boundary.
Identifying the letter and sorting pictures by the initial sound
Children were engaged in hands on letter activity. They sorted pictures for the corresponding alphabets. It was wonderful to see every child make an effort to sort the pictures thereby enhancing their literacy vocabulary.
Sorting pictures as per their initial sounds
Children sorted pictures by their initial sounds into trays labelled with the letters of the alphabet. Children checked the pictures for initial sound and sorted it into the tray as a group activity. Sorting activity is an excellent way to reinforce phonic awareness skills and other early literacy skills needed for reading.
Children learnt letters and their corresponding sounds through a fun and active jumping game. Children were able to identify and recognize the letters and enunciated the sounds for the letters by jumping on letter mats.
Rolling clay into balls for counting
Kids love learning math when they can use their hands and fingers. Children had a math activity where they had to roll the clay into balls and write the number and count the balls as per the number and present them neatly on a slate.
Friendship Day celebration
The children of kindergarten were given an opportunity to create their own friendship bands using colourful namkeens. It was indeed enjoyable to see the little hands string through colourful namkeens and tie them on their friend’s wrists. Children discussed with their teachers about the importance of love and friendship.
Hide and Seek with alphabets
Hide and Seek is an evergreen game, loved by one and all and during the week we introduced the game to our kids, but with Alphabets. Alphabets were randomly hid at various locations and the children were given instructions to look for them in locations like under the table, near the window, inside the box, etc which paved way for them to understand positional vocabulary too. Once the children found the alphabets, they were encouraged to identify its corresponding sound.
Various alphabets were suspended from a long string across the classroom. The children were instructed to give hi-five to the called out alphabet. The teachers also added innovation to the game by changing the height of the strings to make the children jump and reach for it!
The Pre Kg children were taken to the Mandapam for a rhymes session where all the old rhymes were sung. The session got interesting when there were special requests by the children!
Being the final week of the year, a variety of activities were planned for the children of Pre KG, including making an octopus’s tentacles, pattern drawing, wax resistance, passing alphabet, number line and so on.
Edu sports : The Edu Sports department recognised a few children as Sportsperson of the Year and certificates were awarded to them.
Rhymes competition : The Hindi department conducted rhymes competition for the children and the prizes were awarded during the morning assembly by the Headmistress.
Rhapsody arranged a summer camp for the KG children in the Mandapam, where the children were taught new songs and new activities each day.
The language department gave away small Ice cream stick animals as a take away for the children of UKG and colourful butterflies to the children of LKG.
The last working day was made a memorable one for the children! The children played a lot of games inside and outside the class rooms and even enjoyed in a dance party!

We have commenced assessments for students of Pre KG, LKG, UKG, M1 and M2.
For students of Playschool, we conducted an “Under the Tunnel” activity. After working on their Fine Motor Skills, this activity helps to develop gross motor skills for the young ones. An ideal example of learning while having fun!
The Tamil teachers conducted a competition on sorting of pictures and letters for the children. Pictures of Wild Animals, Pet Animals, Birds, Flowers, Letters were randomly spread on the floor and the children were instructed to sort and group them.
Another competition, this time about singing all the Hindi rhymes learnt during the year for UKG children.
Bunny All Faith Day: Bunny Tamtola, the last and final Bunny class for the academic year of 2017-18 was held on the 14th of March 2018. The class was led by Mr.Nagesh, our Scouts and Guides Master. The highlight of the day was when the bunnies sang all the songs that they learnt throughout the year. The session ended with the All Faith Prayer by three children representing the three religions.
Cotton Swab activity: As part of the Art and Craft class, cotton swab activity was done by students of UKG. Right from mixing the paint to executing the work on paper, the entire activity was enthusiastically completed by the kids, with ample guidance from their teachers.
Prize distribution: Prizes were distributed to the students by Mr. Bala (Facilitator – Dept. of Arts) for competitions conducted during the year – Clay modelling, Tamil Rhymes Recitation and Paper Collage.
Open Day take away activity: Scribbling is the most enjoyed activity in Pre KG classrooms. The children were allowed to scribble on charts which was then remodeled as a pouch for crayons. The same was handed over to the children on the Open Day along with other art and craft work done by them.
Play School graduation: The playschool children graduated from their current class with a grand smile. The proud parents carried home their little ones adorning graduation caps!
Edu Sports activity: The Edu Sports team conducted various interesting activities for the children who ran excitedly without minding the morning sun.
It was time for the annual Class photograph session. All the students were lined up with their teachers and displayed their best smiles for the camera!
Annual day practice – With the d-day soon approaching, it was time for all the kids to perfect their dance moves!

The annual day practice has become a part of our routine and would continue till the 22nd and 23rd of Feb 2018. The young ones are getting confident with their dance movements and cant seem to contain their excitement to perform on stage very soon!
Go Green Gift
Parents of Sri Harini of UKG – G presented medicinal saplings for children and KG teachers. We have embraced this loving gesture by planting the saplings in our garden.
All Faith Prayer
The birthday of Lord. Baden Powell, the founder of The Scouts and Guides movement, was celebrated as Thinking Day on the 22nd of February 2018. All the trained Bunny and Cubs & Bulbul leaders assembled in the Mandapam. The Mandapam was all set for the Prayer with floral decorations depicting the various religious symbols, done by the KG staff. The program started with a speech by our Group Leader Ms.Kalaivani Suresh followed by a prayer. Verses and songs prescribed by the Bharath Scouts and Guides National Headquarters were recited by leaders representing various faiths; Christianity, Hindu, Islam and Sikh.
The Annual day was celebrated on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2018. Students of Prekg and LKG celebrated the theme of ‘Grandma says…’ on 22nd Feb while the students of UKG, M1 and M2 sang, dance and made merry to the theme ’90 minutes of Globe Toddling’.
With the completion of the Annual Day celebration, students and teachers resumed their regular classes.
It was time to engage our Playschool students in developing their fine motor skills. This was achieved through a unique “Paper tearing” activity that was enjoyed by one and all.
