Physical education is an integral part of the education process and is aimed towards the overall development of individuals – physical, mental, emotional and social aspects. This is achieved through the medium of physical activities that have been selected with a view of realizing its outcomes.

Apart from learning about the physical aspects of a human body – strength, endurance, fitness and health, education through systematic instructions or training for particular tasks are undertaken. This is necessary the for development and maintenance of human body or the development of physical powers or activities for cultivating physical skills.

The Physical Education program at Omega International School is balanced and provides each student with an opportunity to develop into a physically-educated person; one who learns skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities, is physically fit, participates regularly in physical activity and understands the benefits of involvement in the physical activity and its contributions to a healthy lifestyle.

At Omega we believe that every child must possess a healthy mind; and to have a healthy mind one must have a healthy physique. This contributes to a healthy society.

The Department of Physical Education is structured in such a way that it caters to the development of physically sound individuals right from Nursery school.
We help students develop physical skills and confidence. For example, Kindergarten and Primary school curriculum includes activities that help children obtain and improve skills such as running, catching, throwing, striking and social skills, applicable to sports such as basketball, football, or cricket. Secondary and Senior Secondary curriculum focuses on lifetime sport skills with a secondary emphasis on team sports. It prepares students to become highly proficient in one or more sport and/or fitness activity of their choice.

The PE classes for students of Kindergarten and Grades I to VIII are conducted through our collaborative partner, EduSports, which aims for holistic education through sports.
The curriculum followed is:

Kindergarten and Grades I and II: Building foundational skills such as eye-hand co-ordination, manipulation, body movements, etc.

Grades III to V: Building sports skills with complete sports based curriculum of eight sports – Football, Cricket, Handball, Track and Field, etc along with co-operative games for fitness.

Grades VI to VIII: Students learn the skills, rules and strategy of multiple sports and play a sport of their choice.

Grades IX to XII: Secondary and Senior Secondary students are trained in all ways to make them fit for their routine life. Students are also encouraged to pursue a sport of their choice and focused training is provided.

Students of XI and XII have Physical Education and Health as an optional VI subject. They are provided with the curriculum as per CBSE norms. The theory curriculum for students of Grade XI includes topics covering the trends and career in Physical Education, Olympic movement, Leadership training, Measurement and Evaluation, Kinesiology, Biomechanics and Sports, Psychology and Training in Sports, Doping, Fundamentals of Physiology and Anatomy, and Yoga. Practical topics include Physical Fitness, Skills in any one individual game of choice, Oral exam and Record file.
The curriculum for students of Grade XII include topics on Planning in sports, Sports Nutrition, Yoga and Lifestyle, Physical Education and CWSN, Children and Sports, Women and Sports, Test and Measurement, Physiology and Sports, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Biomechanics and Sports, Psychology in Sports and Training in Sports. CBSE reinforces that Health and Physical Education for students of Grades IX to XII is at the core of their education program. It is recommended that the curriculum be divided into four strands.

Strand 1 – Sports/Games
Strand 2 – Health and Fitness
Strand 3 – SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action)

The Facilitator of Physical Education will maintain the record of all Health and Physical Education activities / competitions of each student. The Comprehensive School Health Manuals (four volumes) brought out by CBSE could be referred to for detailed information and the graded activities that will be taken up as part of the curriculum.
Separate curriculum is followed for students with special needs.
