The Arts

The Department of Fine Arts has been established to provide for an exemplary curriculum and be an integral part of a student’s academic life at Omega. When we speak about holistic development of students, ample opportunities for them to excel in Arts is a start. The vision behind Arts at Omega isn’t limited only to relaxation and entertainment but for students to also develop a life skill. Omega students are provided with a platform to explore and experiment with tools, materials and mediums that a professional artist would in his contemporary studio.

Conscious efforts are consistently taken to ensure that the medium of Fine Arts is on par with the main stream academic enhancements. The curriculum offered is age appropriate pertaining to the different streams – CBSE, Cambridge, IBDP & NIOS.

The Department of Arts offers the following courses to students :
• Art • Craft • Textile and Fashion • Sculpture • Fine Arts (Painting and Graphics)

Students of Grades I to VI are offered a regular Arts and Crafts program and students of Grades VII to X have an option to chose a specific professional program as part of their Club activities, pertaining to the above courses.

We follow a structured curriculum that has a tremendous scope to explore various mediums, surfaces and techniques under each course.


  • Students explore various surfaces – paper, handmade paper, canvas, OHP sheet, colored chart and puf board.

  • The mediums introduced to students could be dry or wet. Dry mediums include graphite pencils (6H to 8B), dry pastel, oil Pastel, color pencils and pen rendering. Water colors, poster colors, acrylic colors and oil paints are the wet mediums.

  • Students learn specific techniques like pencil shading (blending, stippling, scrumbling, strokes, hatching), painting (brush strokes, blending, knife painting, marble) and color theory.

  • Through the exposure in such surfaces, mediums and techniques, students excel in:
    (a) Observation drawing – Still life, nature study, human movement study, animal anatomy and imitation drawings.
    (b) Schools of Art – introduction to the style of Renaissance, Cubism, Impressionism, Fauvism, expressionism, dadism, surrealism, abstract and contemporary art.


Students are taught the art of making products out of cardboard, newspapers, recycled materials and so on. Students learn to make craft with available resources but ensuring a perfect finish that are pleasing to the eye.

  • Students explore various surfaces & materials – paper, cardboard, recycled resources, metal sheets, scrap metal, handmade paper and beyond.

  • Techniques introduced include Folding, Cutting, Scoring, Sticking, Engraving, Layering, Moulding and Patterning.

  • The learning outcomes thus for students are in the art of making newspaper products, decorative pieces, boxes, wall hangings, monuments, lanterns, masks and so on.


Textile and Fashion is one of the new courses offered to students that has its focus centered on thread work, weaving, fabric craft, fashion accessories (wearable products), wall hangings, decorative pieces and dolls.

  • Students explore use of various materials like embroidery threads, coil threads, woolen threads, synthetic threads, jute threads, synthetic wires and strings.

  • The surfaces that students work on ranges from Cotton and Jute to Synthetic, Canvas and Raw Silk.

  • The techniques that are introduced to students are Jewelry (Silk Thread, Terracotta, Quilling and Newspaper accessories), Fabric Belt, Bead embroidery, Indian Embroidery (freehand style, Kutchh, Kasauti, Phulkari, Kashmiri and Mirror work)

  • With this curriculum students are able to excel creatively in making purses, bags, bead belts, pouches, soft toys, etc.


Sculpture club has been introduced this year, where students learn to convert drawings into three-dimensional forms. This challenging task helps students to develop their observation skills, imagination skills and creativity.

  • Through observational drawing (still life, nature study, human movement study, animal anatomy and imitation drawings), students then refer these to make a sculpture.

  • The materials and mediums used are Natural Clay, Dry Clay, Shilpkar, Plaster of paris, Wood, Foam Board, Metal, Jute, Strings, Newspaper, Paper Mache and Wheel pottery.

  • Adding and Subtracting methods, Carving, Engraving, Overlapping, Moulding and Casting are the techniques that are introduced.

  • The learning outcomes include Free Standing Sculpture and Coil Pottery.


Students of classes XI & XII have an option to choose a sixth subject as Fine Arts where they get to specialize in Painting and Graphics.

The curriculum in Painting covers aspects like observational drawing (still life, outdoor study, drawing from photographs, self portrait, etc), landscapes and mixed media. Abstract and creative composition in a variety of medium is explored (graphite pencil, color pencil, soft and hard pastel, poster and watercolor).
On the other hand Graphic design has its focus on etching and engraving on OHP sheet, acrylic sheet, foam board, zinc plate and recycled materials.

At the end of every academic year, the Department of Fine Arts exhibits students’ art work in an epic Art Show that is open to one and all. Students receive appreciation and encouragement from parents, fellow students and teachers.


Kalanjali Competitions – a talent show for Fine Arts and Performing Arts is held at the campus amidst bubbling enthusiasm from students.


For the school Annual Day programs, the Department creates customised banners, stage decorations, costumes, props and more.


Members of faculty from the Department of Fine Arts conduct various workshops for students and teachers – Textile & Machine handling Workshop, Workshop on Clay Modelling and Puppetry Workshop to name a few.


Individual winners in various events and competitions

Rithika of Class VI won a Special Award in an event organized by Linfox Logistics India Private Limited

Abirami of Class VI won the 2nd Prize in a Drawing Competition organized by Inspire Training Academy

Shreenidhi secured the 1st prize in an event held on Drawing Literacy Day at A.M. Jain School.
